The Tri-State Fire Prevention Bureau consists of two full-time 40 hour per week fire prevention inspectors, and one part-time inspector. The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for many vital fire department functions Standards for protection throughout the districts geographical boundaries are set and enforced by the bureau. The Bureau also conducts fire investigations, public education presentations for businesses, schools, and civic organizations. An active role in the Illinois Fire Alliance Burn Camp, International Arson Investigators Association, and Illinois Fire Inspectors Association gives us the ability to be a leader in fire prevention and education. Inspections are done on an annual basis in each commercial property. This inspection is a basic fire code/housekeeping inspection that prevents conditions within a commercial building from becoming an unsafe atmosphere for patrons, employees, and firefighters. It also allows the fire district to maintain a database for owner and key runner information. The bureaus two full-time Inspectors are also fire investigators. Not only do we actively pursue fire and burn prevention, when a fire does occur, a cause and origin investigation takes place. Once the cause and origin is determined, the outcome determines whether a criminal investigation is done in cooperation with local, state and federal law enforcement officials. Tri-States fire investigators have received awards from the National Arson Investigators Association for fire investigations that have successfully brought a successful criminal prosecution to an arsonist. As technology changes so does the Fire Prevention Bureau at the Tri-State Fire Protection District. The fire district was the first fire department in the United State to allow radio transmission to be accepted and received into our dispatch center. This allowed the alarm subscriber to eliminate their phone lines subsequently decreasing the cost of maintain a connection to the fire district. This system is state of the art and other area fire departments have followed suit and are modeling their system to Tri-State's.
